New school year!

During Christmas my sisters and brother managed to collect enough money for the whole first term by selling Christmas cards, shawls and custom-made utility articles. So I am hoping we have a lot more readers now, and I can imagine there are many who wait to hear about what is happening with the girls. First and foremost – on behalf of the girls, Douglas and myself – I want to thank my siblings, everyone who has been helping and everyone who has bought Christmas cards or donated money. You have no idea how much this means to us!

The girls have now started first term of the 2008 school year. A school year lasts from January till the end of November, with long holidays in June and two other short breaks. We have no information yet as to when exactly these breaks will be.

All three have to continue at the same level as last year. Here they have to pass their end-of-term exam by more than 50 % to be moved to the next level. Our girls didn’t make it in 2007, but that is not strange as they only started in the 2nd term, and has been lagging behind a little all the time. All things considered, I actually think they scored pretty high, and have high hopes for this new year.

The day before school started, the girls and I went shopping to buy soap, lotion, new socks etc. – things they need for the new term. The school will not accept them unless they bring everything they need from home. An all-girls shopping trip to the market is always enjoyable. In addition, they were all given school rucksacks by my sister Maria in Norway, one for each!
Paying the school fee took time, as usual. We had to wait in the office for 1.5 hours while the secretary very slowly, but surely, wrote the receipts – by hand – for each individual item we paid for – school fee, graduation fee, medication etc.

During the holidays the girls have continued their special training with Amy. I am pleased and proud to pronounce that they now chat to eachother about everyday matters in English! “Mere, may I have water please”, “good night my sister, sleep well”, “thank you and same to you”.And how about this one; “I am going to sleep” –“are you sure?” “yes, hundred percent!” hahaha yes, I think they are getting pretty ”advanced”.It is boiling hot down here these days, and we wish Anjera, Melida and Mere good luck with their first term!
